The history of New Balance begins in 1906 in the United States in the city of Belmont, where William Riley, a 33-year-old emigrant from England, founds a laboratory for the development and production of corrective devices. Watching a chicken in the garden, Riley draws attention to its exceptional stability and excellent walking balance due to its three-point paw structure. He soon embodied this idea in the design of a support system for shoes: he develops a special instep support, which creates support for the heel of the leg at three points, by analogy with a chicken foot. This technology brings Riley recognition, and the firm gets its first official name - New Balance Arch Company. In 1938, Riley designed and produced the first New Balance running shoes for a local sports club. In 1940, they took part in competitions for the first time, after which the company began to produce custom-made shoes for athletes involved not only in running, but also in baseball, basketball, tennis and boxing.
